A God who can die on the cross, rise from the dead and consequently save all of mankind can do anything so I shouldn't be too shocked that my Granddad is still alive today. But still, I am. I saw the look of death in him - his mouth wide open, his eyes glazed over. The hospital staff brought in a pamphlet on dying and I sobbed as I spent what I thought was going to be my last visit with him.
I don't know why he's holding on, I sure wouldn't be, and I don't know why God's keeping him here after Alzheimer's and this terrible infection, but he is. And I'm going to be thankful for the time we have with him, for the fact that he's sitting up in a wheelchair today, and not question a thing.
A few other Easter miracles happened this weekend too. They're much milder in comparison to my Granddad still being alive after we all thought death was holding him in its hands, but Easter miracles none the less. There are a few things I've always wanted for our house - I'm pretty OCD about a clean house - I've wanted a new lawn mower, because ours wasn't working and I hated having to wait on the people we pay to do it - I wanted new carpet because after 20 years of living here and two very old dogs, our carpet is disgusting - I've wanted new pillows for our couch because the ones we had were gross and unattractive and I wanted to paint the dining room. Well, it all happened this weekend. I painted the dining room by myself in the midst of calamity, I scored gorgeous, inexpensive pillows at TJ Maxx last night, we got a new lawn mower yesterday and scheduled for the carpet people to come on Monday. Yes, it's all a miracle.
So today, we're celebrating a God who's bigger than anything I could ever want, although I'm so thankful for those things we got, who's bigger than death, who's bigger than anything we could imagine. And I'm so, so thankful that because of Him, one day I'll get to sit on his lap and tell him just how much I love him.
