On this day 86 years ago ...

My nana was born.

86 years ago, in a small town in England, one of the most beautiful people I've ever known was born, Shelia McDonell, my Nan.

Little did anyone know, she would grow up and marry my grandpa. No one knew she'd leave her family & come to the United States to start a family of her own. She'd be the Mother of 3, the Nana of 4 and the most loved family member of them all.

& although I wish she was here to celebrate with, I'm so thankful for the 15 birthdays we did share together.

I'm glad my heart holds the memories of her tiny house with a kettle always rolling and a cookie jar always filled.

I'm thankful for the sleepovers we had & the Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes we shared in the morning, made from scratch, just for me.

& I'll never forget the days we spent together laughing & the endless patience she had while I begged her to play pet store, me the doggy under the bed, her the new owner, over and over again.

86 years ago today, my Nana took her first breath & 3 years, 7 months ago she took her last, but her memory lives on & I will forever celebrate this day.

That's so weird. My grandma comes from England, too! I'm lucky enough to still have her, but I hardly every get to see her anymore and feel terrible. She married my grandpa and gave birth to my dad over in England, and then came over here with my infant dad on a BOAT. Can you imagine?? Grandmas are awesome.
